Teaching Practice Phase 2: Day 36

Image
Today marked the end of the second phase school internship. I could successfully complete the portions assigned to me by Maja ma'am for 8f learners. The students gave an informal farewell for me to my surprise. I along with my fellow trainees  who engaged 8 8f were invited to the class during the 6th period. The pupils had taken effort to scribble on the blackboard all our so called hackneyed dialogues and topics which we taught in the class. Even some of the discourses I gave in the class like movie poster making, news report writing and travel agency flyer were written and highlighted on the board. I collected personal feedbacks from the learners.  Most of them opined that they enjoyed all the class activities given. Some opined that they could understand the target language-use in the class only to a certain degree. Kaveri requested me not to give learners judgmental look when the answers they utter happen to be wrong and I clearly understood what she meant. My smile and en...

Teaching Practice Phase 2: Day 35

I engaged the last period for 8f students today. I took a remedial lesson on question tags as most of the pupils performed poorly in the area in both Achievement and Diagnostic tests.  I decided to focus my lesson on those statements where auxiliary verbs are not directly given and where the learners had to split the main verb to form the question tag. I took up the one with past form of verbs  in positive  statements for the remedial teaching. I took a normal behaviourism based class giving instructions on the rules and using teaching aids. Exercises were then given so that the learners could  grasp the concept deductively. It was seen that many learners who could not understand question tags earlier were able to do the exercise correctly when they were instructed to take down structured notes, examples and their explanations. The students also showed great confidence in doing the exercises. Adequate repetitions were also given wherever the learners dema...

Teaching Practice Phase 2: Day 33

The day commenced  with a special assembly associated with the inception of School Olympics as envisioned by the Government of Kerala. This is to be held simultaneously with the 2024 Paris Olympics. The School Olympics'  torch light was handed over to Jose sir, HM of GGHSS, birthday Manacaud  by four students who excel in various sports items, including Kaveri, one of my students from 8F class.  The physical education trainer Sunil Kumar sir gave the message pertraining to Olympics. A detailed divulgence of the history of Olympics was made by one of the students. After the morning assembly I went to 8F class to take a regular period for them. The class strength was too low as it was Saturday. Nevertheless I completed the lesson 'The Little Round Red House' as it is a simple children's story.I then explained the usage of 'too...to'  in sentences and ask the learners to construct sentences of their own using 'too...to'. With necessary scaffoldi...

Teaching Practice Phase 2: Day 32

I engaged 5th period as substitution for 7B students. The class was really difficult to manage. The students kept shouting.  Amidst the loud noise, the other pupils were studying for their English exam scheduled in the afternoon. I had to really strain my voice to control the class. There even came a point where my sound was totally subdued by the noise in class. I could not engage in completing my college works in that class. I had to repeatedly raise my voice to manage the learners who were really in different to all my instructions. I got a regular period for 8F class during the second period and continued with the lesson 'The Little Round Red House' and a substitution period at 8f was also engaged during the fourth period.I made the learners do a role play imitating Mr.Fetzer's farm stand and customers  and went on with a  discussion on the merits and demerits of urbanisation.  The assignment question on localisation, the merits of locally produced fo...

Teaching Practice Phase 2: Day 31

I had substitution duty in 7b during the second period but Gayatri Mahima exchanged it with me so that I could engage 8f students. I continued with the lesson 'The Little Round Red House' and gave the learners an interesting  discourse on making travel agency flyers promoting a travel package including at trip and exploration to find the little round red house. They worked in groups to come up with colourful and interesting flyers. Chart papers were distributed to the students and they made use of colouring materials they brought as enjoined in the previous class.  I had a regular period at 8f from 11: 50 am To 12: 30 pm. I could complete one more lesson plan with the help of PowerPoint slides prepared during the third period. I gave a simple activity this time to the students- to think about and write down the other strategies the boy in the story could use to find the little round red house without asking the passer-bys  like the mail carrier or police offic...
