Teaching Practice Phase 2: Day 36

Today marked the end of the second phase school internship. I could successfully complete the portions assigned to me by Maja ma'am for 8f learners. The students gave an informal farewell for me to my surprise. I along with my fellow trainees  who engaged 8 8f were invited to the class during the 6th period. The pupils had taken effort to scribble on the blackboard all our so called hackneyed dialogues and topics which we taught in the class. Even some of the discourses I gave in the class like movie poster making, news report writing and travel agency flyer were written and highlighted on the board. I collected personal feedbacks from the learners. 

Most of them opined that they enjoyed all the class activities given. Some opined that they could understand the target language-use in the class only to a certain degree. Kaveri requested me not to give learners judgmental look when the answers they utter happen to be wrong and I clearly understood what she meant. My smile and energy level in the class were appreciated by some. After taking feedback from the pupils themselves, Maja ma'am filled the evaluation sheet I had given her, since she herself had never observed my class. Despite getting an 'excellent'  feedback, I felt I have a long way to go in becoming an excellent teacher.

Owing to constant insistence from the learners,  I performed a dance number for them along with my fellow trainers Keerthana and Veena. Performing before the learners was also a noble experience for me. Ivwas grateful to all my students  for cooperating with me and making me enjoy the teaching process.  Some even showed the courtesy of giving me material gifts before parting. I wished to continue there as their English teacher. So do the pupils.  Many of them asked me to procure a teaching job as soon as possible and join GGHSS Manacaud as a permanent faculty. Of course I took it as a motivation to try for the same. As I stepped out of the threshold of the school, I felt myself experiment more confident as a teacher trainee who open had grand a great start election for teaching dance to the smallest bird of experiences i gained during the I internship.

Enduring the indolence in the wake of a heavy rain,  we reached GGHSS,  Manacaud today. After the morning duty in 9E class, I went on to prepare notes on the next chapter 'The Boy Who Drew Cats' for 8F. During the fourth period, I took a class on the topic Question tags using direct instruction model.  The students' response to different activities showed that though they discerned the topic clearly, they take a lot of time to work out the exercises. I asked the learners to work more on question tags at home as it's an important topic in English.  We were given duty to serve noon meal to the students but when we went for the same, the teachers informed that they would serve the meal. So we returned and relished our lunch. After lunch, I spent time preparing lesson plans for the upcoming classes.

Teaching Practice Phase 2: Day 4

After the morning prayer and pledge I headed to 8F class .Being Saturday the class strength was comparatively low. During the first period I completed the story 'The Mysterious Picture' and gave printed copies of notes to the learners, instructing them to take them down in their note books and submit the same on Wednesday. During the second period, I took a class on suffixes. Since the pupils had already been familiarised with base or root form of word it was easy for them to grasp the concept of suffixes. My teacher, Ms. MajaDevi asked me to speed up the classes as I have to complete two units from the 8th standard textbook before August. I told her to rest assured. Because the LSGI Secretary examination was held in the afternoon with GGHSS Manacaud  as one of its centres, we left the school after lunch. We sought  permission from the HM, Jose sir from the school on Tuesday to attend the NTA-NET exams and he granted leave  for us.

Teaching Practice Phase 2:Day 18

The remembrance day of the renowned Malayalam writer Vaikom Muhammed Basheer was observed in the course of the morning assembly with students amped about playing Basheer and his characters on the rostrum. I reached the school by 9.15 am. By that time, all the participating students were dressed up. My fellow trainee Gayathri had helped them in getting ready for the programme. After the morning prayer, a student impersonated Basheer and delivered a talk, appealing to all litterateurs among the audience. This was followed by the rendition of famous dialogues from Basheer's works 'Mathilukal' and 'Pathummayude Aadu' by pupils garbed in diverse clothes. Speech on the day observance was made by the HM and deputy HM. A quiz competition on Basheer and his works was conducted for the students in the afternoon. The first and second prizes were grabbed by 5th grade students.
