Teaching Practice Phase 2: Day 24
I had one regular period for 8f from 10:10 00 am to 11 am. I started with the next poem 'From A Railway Carriage' for the pupils , starting by encouraging them to share their experience of their first train journey. Many voluntarily shared their experiences. Afterwards I too shared my experience of my first train journey which was a bit funny and it evoked laughter in the students. After dealing with the first stanza of the poem an outline map of Scotland was distributed to the students and they were asked to work in groups to create rail route maps taking cues from the descriptions given in the first stanza. Before the learners started doing the activity that teacher displayed an example of rail routes in Scotland as depicted in a map.
After collecting back the activity sheets, the teacher read out the best poems from among the ones which the learners had written in the previous class regarding the ones using adjectives, about their favourite fruit. The poem written by Faiza's group entitled 'The Large Seed in a Small Avocado' adequately made use of adjectives , visual images and rhyming words. The poem written by Fazeena and group was appreciated for its imaginative appeal. Then the prizes for the film poster making, based on the story 'A Shipwrecked Sailor' were declared and given out. The merits and shortcomings of all posters were discuss in the class. The first three places where grabbed by groups led by Anjana ,Hajira and Ananya respectively.
We did the mid day meal serving duty today. During the free hours I prepared notes on 'A Shipwrecked Sailor' and handed over the copies of the notes to the 8F students. I got substitution duty for 7f class during the last period. Since the learners weren't engaged in any other activity, I asked them to write a paragraph on what they like and dislike about their school. Most of the learners opined that they enjoy certain degree of freedom in their school but disliked there Hindi periods as their teacher is a bit strict.
I did not have any discipline duty today. I left the school after marking the evening attendence.
