World Wetlands Day Celebration

On February 2, 2024, the Geography Association (GEOQUEST) of Govt. College of Teacher Education (GCTE) Thycaud, in partnership with the Internal Quality Assurance Cell (IQAC), hosted a compelling event in honor of World Wetlands Day. This special talk was designed to spotlight the significance of wetlands and underscore the urgent need for their preservation.
The highlight of the event was the presence of Dr. V. Subhash Chandra Bose, a distinguished environmentalist renowned for his deep understanding and commitment to environmental conservation. As the chief guest, Dr. Bose's extensive expertise made him the perfect choice to illuminate the critical role of wetlands in our ecosystem.
The event kicked off with a comprehensive introduction to the theme of World Wetlands Day, providing an overview of the current global efforts and challenges in wetland conservation. Dr. Bose then took the stage, delivering an engaging and enlightening speech that captivated the audience. His talk shed light on the multifaceted importance of wetlands, emphasizing their ecological, social, and economic contributions. They encompass a variety of ecosystems, from freshwater and marine coastal wetlands to manmade sites like rice paddies and reservoirs. Swamps, marshes, coral reefs, and mangroves all fall under the umbrella of wetlands, each playing a pivotal role in supporting diverse life forms. Wetlands not only provide critical habitats for wildlife but also offer immense benefits to human communities, contributing to water purification, flood control, and climate regulation.

World Wetlands Day is an annual observance aimed at raising awareness about the indispensable value of wetlands. This year’s celebration at GCTE Thycaud was no exception. It highlighted the immense contributions of wetlands to both human life and the environment, reinforcing the message that their protection is crucial for our collective future.

I engaged two periods for 8E class today. Since the lesson 'The Nightingale and the Rose' was completed, I gave the learners a few activities based on the same. A story board completion chart was displayed and the learners were randomly called to complete it. After the task, the teacher confirmed the answers and cleared doubts.  I also made the learners do a passage editing activity and error correction activity. During the last period, I conducted a test for them on the poem 'The Sower'. The examination was held for 15 marks and for thirty minutes duration. Since I could not take print outs of the question paper, I wrote down the questions on the board and asked the learners to write down the answers.  After collecting the answer sheets, I asked the pupils to complete a few activities,  including poster making activity given in their English Reader and submit the works by Monday.

The Jolly Hollies 2022

Christmas was traditionally a Christian festival celebrating the birth of Jesus, but in the early 20th century, it also became a secular family holiday, observed by Christians and non-Christians alike.Popular customs of Christmas  include exchanging gifts, decorating Christmas trees, attending church, sharing meals with family and friends and, of course, waiting for Santa Claus to arrive. GCTE Thycaud too celebrated Christmas on 22nd December, 2022. Teaching Practice: Phase 1 : Day 25

I engaged two periods for 9F today and completed the story 'The Last Leaf' for them. Then I gave necessary instructions to them so that they could complete the textual exercises on their own. I asked the pupils to come up with alternative titles for the lesson . I also dictated to them notes on the poem 'On Killing a Tree' which they took down in their notebooks.  For 8E class, I continued with the story 'A Day in the Country' using vocabulary and powerpoint slides as aid. I had to rush the lesson a bit since their portions were pending and revision classes were about to begin prior to the Christmas examination.  Preparations for the upcoming state-level vocational fests have already begun. My fellow teacher trainees took Physical Education classes during the second and third periods.
