Energizing Kerala: A Journey into the International Energy Festival of Kerala

Kerala’s commitment to energy conservation took a significant leap forward with the collaboration between EMC Kerala and AEEE, formalized through a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on February 8, 2024. This partnership was unveiled during the inaugural International Energy Festival of Kerala (IEFK) held at the Tagore Theatre from February 7 to 9, 2024. A highlight of this collaboration was AEEE's session on ‘Catalyzing Energy Efficiency in States through the ESCO Route’ at the festival.

 An Enlightening Experience

Attending the IEFK on February 9, 2024, at the Tagore Theatre in Thiruvananthapuram was nothing short of exhilarating. The festival buzzed with innovative ideas, cutting-edge technologies, and thought-provoking discussions centered around energy conservation, renewable energy sources, and sustainable practices. The event provided attendees with not just knowledge but also handy souvenirs like notepads, pens, and bags.

The day kicked off with a registration process, followed by a settling period where anticipation filled the air. The first session set the tone, focusing on energy efficiency in public buildings. This was succeeded by a captivating discussion on micromobility in India, led by the Council on Energy, Environment and Water, which highlighted the path to energy-efficient and improved livelihoods.

Beyond Discussions: Fun and Recognition

A cultural break provided a refreshing interlude, complete with a lucky draw contest. The excitement peaked when Ms. Sruthy from the Department of Mathematics Education clinched the first lucky draw prize, sparking enthusiasm for the subsequent draws and gift coupons awarded throughout the day.

The afternoon sessions resumed with Prayas Energy Group exploring the role of demand-side management in energy transition, followed by a compelling video on energy efficiency in the agricultural sector. The discussions then shifted to the development of decarbonization strategies aimed at making Kerala carbon neutral by 2050 and the pressing need for a low-carbon building transition in the state.

Celebrating Achievements and Future Goals

One of the notable highlights was the launch of the Centre for Energy Studies by Mr. T.K. Jose, the honorable chairman of the Kerala State Regulatory Commission. This was accompanied by the distribution of KSSEC 2024 college-level awards, celebrating the achievements and contributions of young minds in the field of energy conservation.

The day's sessions concluded with an insightful discussion on the potential for scaling electric cooking in Kerala, followed by the inauguration of the Kulirma scheme demo project. This marked the end of a day filled with learning, inspiration, and a vision for a sustainable future.

The International Energy Festival of Kerala was more than just an event; it was a celebration of innovation and collaboration, paving the way for a greener, more energy-efficient Kerala.
