Teaching Practice: Phase 1: Day 6
After the second semester B.Ed examination, I returned to Govt Girls HSS, Manacaud for teaching practice. I took three classes today and completed two lesson plans. During the second period, I engaged the 9F students. After a brief introductory session regarding the persons who motivate the pupils in their life and after regaling the inspirational story of Ira Singhal, IAS officer who fought against all her shortcomings and disabilities to reach that position, I moved on to the chapter 'The Jungle Air Crash'. As I anticipated that most of the learners wouldn't be bringing the second part textbook after the completion of the first, I included the content under study too in the powerpoint slides and it was a wise move. Since I limited the class to two paragraphs, I could better get the attention of the pupils. Adequate repetitions and clarification of difficult terms were given. As usual, the learners were arranged in groups.
Though I intend to complete the activity based on the content during the second period itself, I could not. However, the activity was given during the sixth period. It was regarding the unscrambling of letters of words to find out words rated to professionals engaged in different jobs. Some teams did the work assigned. Some found it difficult. After the alloted time, I discussed the answers with the pupils and made them write the same in their notebooks.
I took the first three stanzas of the poem 'Song of the Flower' for 8E class. In fact, the poem as a whole was already taken for them by their concerned teacher. Some kind of communication gap occurred. However I repeated the first three stanzas as planned, giving a more in-depth analysis of different literary devices used in the poem. The activity given at the end of the class seemed to be interesting to the learners. They were made to compose a poem of their own related to the theme of nature in groups. They wrote the poems in the activity cards provided to them and most of the poems were pleasurable to peruse despite certain grammatical and spelling errors which were corrected.
