World Music Day Celebration

“Where words fail, music speaks.” 
World Music Day, also known as Fete de la Musique, is an annual global celebration of music that is observed on June 21. The day is celebrated to honor the musicians and singers for the gift of music, which gives flight to the imagination and life to everything. For many, the world would be meaningless without music, so World Music Day is celebrated to celebrate its power. Music is a vital part of everyday life, and World Music Day marks the importance of music every year.

The history of World Music Day can be traced back to France in 1982. The then French Minister for Culture, Jack Lang initiated this concept of global observance day for world music. However, the idea for a special day to celebrate global music was first proposed by Maurice Fleret, the director of music and dance at the time.The first World Music Day was observed in France on June 21, 1982. The event was a great success, thousands of musicians across the country took part in this event giving a strong message to the world.

The theme for World Music Day 2023 is "Music on the Intersections." It highlights the immense influence of music in unifying communities and individuals.World Music Day holds great significance for the world which is divided by nationality, culture, race and religion, but united by the universal language of music. The day is a reminder to the world about the power of music which can transcend cultural boundaries and unite diverse communities.


GCTE Thycaud celebrated World Music Day on June 20th, 2023.The programme heralded with a prayer song by Ms. Reshma Rajesh. The event was hosted by Mr. Vishnu Gopakumar from 2nd M.Ed. Mr.Praveen Kumar S, College Union Chairman delivered the welcome speech. The principal of GCTE, Dr.AV Sujith rendered the presidential address. Sri Perukavu PL Sudheer, Lecturer in Mridangam at Sri Swathi Thirunal College of Music, was the chief guest. He inaugurated the event and played some musical notes to engage us. Dr.VK Santhosh Kumar sir and Dr.S.Kumar sir pronounced the felicitation. 


Musical performances by Mr.Anoop Gramika, Ms. Unnimaya Prasad and Mr.Nandu JS from Sri Swathi Thirunal College of Music became the highlights of the programme ensued by gigs from the part of GCTE student teachers. The programmes came to a halt with vote of thanks rendered by Arts Club Secretary, Ms. Keerthana Anil.
