Arts Fest 2023

The college union  "Onche" in association with the Arts club organised Arts Day 2023 "Thodayam " on 20th  and 21st  February 2023 at the UGC Hall of GCTE. The literary events were organised earlier in collaboration with the Literary Club of the college under the aegis of the Convenor of the club cum Assistant Professor , Dr. Jayakrishna K and student Convenor Ms.Kavya Sagar.The inaugural ceremony  of Arts Fests began with a prayer by Ms. Maria George. Ms. Asha Krishnan, Assistant Professor in Educational Psychology and Convenor of Cultural Activities rendered the welcome speech. Presidential Address was given by the esteemed principal of GCTE and General Convenor Dr.VK Santhosh Kumar sir. Ms.Vinitha V, Lecturer in Dance, Sree Swathi Thirunal Govt College of Music, Trivandrum inaugurated the fest by lighting the lamp. She also staged a Keralanadanam performance for us. Felicitation addresses were delivered by Dr. Jayakrishna K and our college vice-chairperson Ms. Revathy BR. Ms. Keerthana Anil, Arts Club Secretary, rendered the vote of thanks.Team Names assigned to the comepting groups , named after four rhythms in Kathakali, were :    First BEd - Panchari, Second BEd - Chembada, First MEd - Chamba and Second MEd - Adantha.The competition items included under performance arts in which student teachers took part were classical music, folk song, elocution and recitation (English, Malayalam, Hindi, Tamil), Ganamela,  Light Music, Vanchipaattu, Western Group Song, Kuchipudi,Thiruvathira, Gazal, Chenda, Mime, Western Vocal Solo,  Mappilappatu (Male & Female) , Recitation and Aksharaslokam (Sanskrit), Group Dance, Mohiniyattam, Folk Dance, Oppana, Arabic  Recitation, Fancy dress, Monoact (Female), Group song and Kadhaprasangam (Female).I took part in a few literary items and mime. It was my maiden experience at mime and I enjoyed the same. The theme selected for the performance was 'Human Sacrifice' and all our team members put in their best effort for the same. Felt really happy to be a part of such a spectacular arts fest.

Teaching Practice Phase 2: Day 28

I took the rest of the poem 'Marvellous Travel' in 8f class today during the second period. The learners could recall the content dealt with in the previous class.I took the last two stanzas  of the poem there and explained the unfamiliar words using ICT resources. I gave time for the learners to take down the meanings of these words in their note books. A discussion was initiated on the topic 'how to travel without money' and the learners came up with a wide range of ideas like hitchhiking, packing homely food, carrying items for cooking and cooking on the roadside,  travelling by electric vehicles at low cost, carrying tents and camping in allowed places, halting at friends' and relatives' houses and so on. Teaching Practice: Phase 1: Day 22

I engaged two periods for 8E class today. Since the lesson 'The Nightingale and the Rose' was completed, I gave the learners a few activities based on the same. A story board completion chart was displayed and the learners were randomly called to complete it. After the task, the teacher confirmed the answers and cleared doubts.  I also made the learners do a passage editing activity and error correction activity. During the last period, I conducted a test for them on the poem 'The Sower'. The examination was held for 15 marks and for thirty minutes duration. Since I could not take print outs of the question paper, I wrote down the questions on the board and asked the learners to write down the answers.  After collecting the answer sheets, I asked the pupils to complete a few activities,  including poster making activity given in their English Reader and submit the works by Monday.
