Talk on Traffic Awareness
The augmenting road accident rate has become a bee in the bonnet of the common people in India. Albeit many rules and regulations were introduced to promote road safety in the country, many of these regulations have not been effective and fruitful. There lies the importance to educate people from their early age regarding traffic rules so that they grow up to be accountable citizens. Road safety rules are not confined to be used by motorists and drivers but also by pedestrians, cyclists, and others. While on the road, one must diligently observe traffic sign boards and follow the same with patience and consideration. This brings down congestion and also help people avoid potential mishaps while on the roads.
Considering this, a Traffic Awareness Class was organised by Natural Science Association og GCTE in collaboration with IQAC on 21st December 2022 from 2:30 pm to 4:30 pm at General Hall 1 of the college. The session was handled by Mr. Yethy Prakash NL, Senior Civil Police Officer. He disseminated the traffic rules to be followed via an anecdote. It was an interactive session and was very useful too.He distributed some pamphlets containing road safety rules.
Traffic signs are important pieces og information that can ensure our safety and the safety of those around us. Awareness of road rules can abate chances of accidents. Traffic signs acquaints us with the condition of roads. They not only help in the smooth flow of traffic but also guide and warn people on how they should conduct themselves while on the roads. Drivers who are pre-informed about the points of entry, exit, turns, and other road conditions by way of traffic signs naturally make less number of mistakes and reach their destinations in a smooth manner. In India, any person applying for a driving licence is required to be familiar with road safety signs and traffic signals. They need to go through a written/oral test in order to obtain the driving licence. There are primarily three types of traffic signs that everyone should be aware of. The same are as follows:Mandatory traffic signs like 'One Way', 'No Entry', and 'Overtaking Prohibited'; Cautionary traffic signs that warn road users in advance about potential hazards and dangers on the roads like 'Steep Ascent', 'School Ahead', 'Narrow Road', and 'Dangerous Dip' ; and Informatory traffic signs that help road users with information about the directions, distance, destinations, alternative routes, and important locations such as schools, hospitals, public toilets, and more as for instance , 'Right Hand Curve', 'Pedestrian Crossing', 'Cattle', and more. All these essential topics under traffic awareness were dealt with in the session.
