Inauguration of Anti-Narcotic Club, Nerkootam Committee and Sradha Committee.

On 26th October 2022, the students of GCTE Thycaud had gathered together at the UGC Hall of the college to bear testimony to the inauguration of Anti-Narcotic club, Nerkootam Committee and Sradha Committee. The event commenced at 11am on the same day with the exhortation "Say No to Drugs". The programme convenor was Dr.VK Santhosh Kumar, Principal, GCTE;  Dr.Rajashree, Head of the Department of Natural Science coordinated the whole programme with the help of the student coordinators Ms. Sreekutty SS and Ms. Bincy B, Research Scholars, GCTE. The programme started with the rendition of prayer song by Ms. Karthika Suresh from 2nd Semester B.Ed (Social Science) . The welcome address was given by the principal followed by presidential address by PTA Vice President Shri. Sabu Valerian. The official inauguration of the aforesaid clubs were done by Shri PK Jayaraj, Excise Division Officer, Fort, Trivandrum. He had delivered an eye-opening and thought-provoking session on drug abuse and the related menaces in our society which largely stemmed from his official first-hand experiences. By relating real life incidents on substance abuse, he admonitions the audience to refrain from the same. He lamented the dangerous turn that the lives of youths take, reminding us of the personal, professional, legal, social and national consequences of the same. He added the political dimension of substance abuse too - how the top brass wanted to silence the coming generation by weering them away from issues of contemporary relevance and those issues which affect the everyday lives of the masses, by luring the young men and women to such temporary and dastardly pleasures. Though the manner in which the speaker related the youth's sense and awareness of their rights and freedom to substance use was a bit unacceptable and debatable considering the generalisation he made, the impact of the session in totality is laudable and worthy. Felicitation ensued from the part of Thycaud Ward Councillor Shri Madhava Das who asserted the steps that could be taken at the ward level to curb the issue. Felicitation addresses were also given by Dr.Jolly S, Vice Principal, GCTE; Ms. Gayatri BL, College Union Chairperson and Ms.Mettilda Alphonsa, Anti-Narcotic club convenor. Rajashree ma'am delivered the vote of thanks and the programme took its wrap with the singing of the National Anthem.
