Day for Mother Tongue (Mathrubhaashadinam)
On November 1, 2022, which marked the 66th year of the birth of Kerala State, GCTE Thycaud organised the Day for Mother Tongue ("Mathrubhaashadinam"). The programmes in this regard were organised by the Malayalam optional students of our college. The celebration was compered by Sister Linu. The celebration began with an invocation to the Gods by Ms. Parvathy S, followed by welcome speech by Mr.Krishnakumar BT. Krishnakumar historically traced the formation of the Kerala State and recalled various landmark socio-political movements that moulded our present-day state. Ms. Sibana S thereafter read aloud the language pledge which the audience repeated. Presidential address was then delivered by Dr. VK Santhosh Kumar, Principal, GCTE who focused on the importance of valuing our mother tongue even amidst the globalised tendency of acquiring and using foreign languages. Dr. Sushammakumari KS, Associate Professor in the Department of Malayalam, University College, was the chief guest of the celebration. She engaged the audience by talking about the linguistic changes and clippings that have been effected in the Malayalam language over the years. She laments the reluctance of the youth to acknowledge the value of Malayalam all the while asserting that no language is superior or inferior. She had put forth her belief that we the student teachers will evolve into competent bilinguals or multilinguals with adequate skill in handling our mother tongue just like any other language. Felicitation addresses were rendered by Ms. Sheena Elizabeth Varghese and Mr. Rahul VR. The celebration wound up with vote of thanks form the association secretary Ms.Parvathy S.
