Teaching Practice Phase 2: Day 30

The day began  with the morning assembly, marked by prayer; and pledge in Hindi followed by news reading. English club members introduced the word for the day 'enterpreneur', acquainted those assembled with a motivating quote by Helen Keller and the song by Alan Walker. The Assembly or also bore testimony to the inauguration of Arts club and Science club.
I engaged a class on the next  lesson 'The Little Round Red House' for 8f students from 10: 25 am. to 11: 00 am. Both Sheena ma'am nd Asha ma'am came for class observation and pointed out the merits of the class and areas that need improvement. Sheena ma'am suggested that a more simple discourse could have been given in the class whereas Asha ma'am pointed out that the learners could do the same well. I personally felt that the former was underestimating the learners particularly after going through their responses recorded in the activities sheets, though the problem of time management still persists. I felt that textual reading was effective with proper prosody and expression. I mostly resorted to calling the names of students before asking them the comprehension questions to avoid mass answering.  The teacher suggested that the students be given more time to find out answers to the questions. She also suggested  making them right down proper notes in the class with day and date and to give more writing sessions. Asha teacher asked me to take care of the class discipline while the learners are engaged in group activity. Both the teachers appreciated my engagement in the teaching process and the fact that I was pleasant throughout the class. I hope to incorporate all their suggestions  in my class planning and execution in the coming days.
During the lunch break I distributed diagnostic test answer sheets to the 8f pupils. I explained to them question tags again with two examples one in which given sentence contains the auxiliary verb 'was' followed by the word 'not' and the other with a noun and the auxiliary verb 'is'. I asked them to byheart the list of helping verbs. Due to time limitations I promised that I will explain the other types in the next classes. During the 6th period I dictated notes to 8f pupils as instructed by Maja ma'am. During the fifth period I engaged  substitution for 6a students.
