Teaching Practice Phase 2: Day 27
I conducted achievement test for 8f pupilss based on the lesson 'The Boy Who Drew Cats' and the grammar topic question tags. I had to change the seats of a few students for making disturbance while the test was going on. The test questions were prepared based on objectives given in Revised Blooms' taxonomy, including multiple choice questions, short answer questions, essay type question and fill in the blanks type questions. Remembering, understanding, analysing ,applying, evaluating and creating type questions were included. The test was conducted for 20 marks and the duration was 40 minutes.
I corrected the learners' answer sheets during the free hours. It appeared that most of them were familiar with the short story's plot, theme, characters and were also familiar with writing dialogues for conversation despite spelling and grammatical errors but it was really disheartening to learn that the majority of students had not clearly grasped the concept of question tags which I handled for more than 2 periods in the class. Most of them correctly wrote question tags for singular verb containing sentences without auxiliary verbs. However they could not even understand 'he's' as 'he is' and even some had a written wh questions or full sentences in place of question tags.
