Teaching Practice Phase 2: Day 25

Jaya Krishna ma'am, the Hindi optional teacher came for my class observation today at 8F during the third period. I completed the poem 'From a Railway Carriage' today. After the class, teacher opined about the merits and shortcomings of my class.I felt that the class was a bit noisy than usual. She told me that I spend a lot of time checking the previous knowledge, explaining the meaning, giving explanation and activity. She asked if I regularly take class in English exclusively and I replied that I often use bilingual method. I had to give more than 10 minutes to the pupils to complete the activity sheets and then too only a few groups could complete them. I made the learners read out the answers to the activity and collected back the completed sheets. The rest of them submitted the sheets during the afternoon.
 During the second last period I accompanied Veena to 7A class for substitution. There were only 6 students in the class. I did not have discipline duty today. After leaving the school I went to my college to get my lesson plans signed by Isaac sir. I also had to submit Physical Education  works to Rosh sir. I also got achievement test question paper corrected by Isaac sir.

I engaged two periods for 8E class today. Since the lesson 'The Nightingale and the Rose' was completed, I gave the learners a few activities based on the same. A story board completion chart was displayed and the learners were randomly called to complete it. After the task, the teacher confirmed the answers and cleared doubts.  I also made the learners do a passage editing activity and error correction activity. During the last period, I conducted a test for them on the poem 'The Sower'. The examination was held for 15 marks and for thirty minutes duration. Since I could not take print outs of the question paper, I wrote down the questions on the board and asked the learners to write down the answers.  After collecting the answer sheets, I asked the pupils to complete a few activities,  including poster making activity given in their English Reader and submit the works by Monday.

Teaching Practice: Phase 1 : Day 25

I engaged two periods for 9F today and completed the story 'The Last Leaf' for them. Then I gave necessary instructions to them so that they could complete the textual exercises on their own. I asked the pupils to come up with alternative titles for the lesson . I also dictated to them notes on the poem 'On Killing a Tree' which they took down in their notebooks.  For 8E class, I continued with the story 'A Day in the Country' using vocabulary and powerpoint slides as aid. I had to rush the lesson a bit since their portions were pending and revision classes were about to begin prior to the Christmas examination.  Preparations for the upcoming state-level vocational fests have already begun. My fellow teacher trainees took Physical Education classes during the second and third periods. Teaching Practice Phase 2: Day 28

I took the rest of the poem 'Marvellous Travel' in 8f class today during the second period. The learners could recall the content dealt with in the previous class.I took the last two stanzas  of the poem there and explained the unfamiliar words using ICT resources. I gave time for the learners to take down the meanings of these words in their note books. A discussion was initiated on the topic 'how to travel without money' and the learners came up with a wide range of ideas like hitchhiking, packing homely food, carrying items for cooking and cooking on the roadside,  travelling by electric vehicles at low cost, carrying tents and camping in allowed places, halting at friends' and relatives' houses and so on.
