Teaching Practice Phase 2 : Day 21

Morning assembly began at 9:30 am after the completion of KPSC exam centred at GGHSS, Manacaud. After the prayer and pledge, the prizes for various competitions held in association with the literary week celebration and Basheer's remembrance day were distributed. One of my students from 8F class, Kaveri V Sanu grabbed a prize and I congratulated her. The assembly also bore testimony to a new initiative undertaken under the aegis of the English club, that is A Word A Day, aimed at improving the pupils' vocabulary in English. A new word along with its meaning will be displayed in the notice board of the school everyday, starting with the word 'exquisite'. The learners were enjoined to keep a vocabulary diary in their classrooms to make a record of these words. The classes which systematically maintains the same were promised prizes too.

Though I got a substitution for 8F during the first period, it was of no use as the lion's share of the period was stolen by the morning assembly.  During the second period, I engaged my regular period at 8F class. Since their class teacher, Bindu ma'am was on leave, I took the attendance and then continued with the story 'A Shipwrecked Sailor' and I could complete it. I gave a discourse for making film posters based on the story, asking the pupils to imagine that they are going to adapt Marquez' story to a film. The learners with great discipline and concentration engaged in their group work as I had promised to hold the activity as a competition and to give away prizes to those who come in the first three places. All the groups came up with colourful and creative posters. Chart papers were distributed and the learners made use of colouring materials they had brought as instructed in the previous class. I informed the learners that the merit of their works will be discussed with the other training teachers and that results will be announced soon.

During the fourth period, I got substitution in 5C class. A class well known among trainees for the pupils' prowess in dance, music and drama, I was a bit concerned about the class management but it was not bad as expected. I called out roll numbers and made them do performances of their choice. Alfiya informed me that Isaac sir had come to the school to observe Sruthi's class in the higher secondary section and that he was waiting for me. I handed over the charge of 5C to Alfiya and met Isaac sir to get my lesson plans signed. He told that he was not intimated yet to observe the class of English optional students. He asked about my classes and the learners and I replied that they show readiness to learn and do new things and that class management is easy. I also met Jayakrishna ma'am who came to the school for observing Hindi subject trainees' classes.

I did not have any other substitution duties today. During the second last period, I accompanied Gayatri to take a list of students from different divisions of tenth standard who were interested in joining the Hindi club.
I spent the rest of the time preparing notes of 'A Shipwrecked Sailor' for the learners.
I did the line duty after the national anthem and left the school.
