Teaching Practice Phase 2: Day 14
Today, we were exempted from morning duty. During the second period, I started with the song 'We're the World' by Michael Jackson and Lionel Richie Jr. for 8F class. I played the song for them using mobile phone. I was dubious as to whether it would be audible to the whole class but it turned out well. Learners could appreciate the music as well as the lyrics of the song. Since the historical context was introduced prior to the nitty-gritties, they could easily answer the comprehension questions. I thought, however, that the learners struggled with completing the class activity of writing a journal entry regarding what they can do to make the world a better place. Though they attempted the activity in groups, the preponderance of the sub-headings in the activity cards seemed to have baffled them. I provided many cues and hints to make them work it out and asked them to freely express their ideas. They submitted the activity sheets and their responses were discussed in the class.
We did the mid-day meal serving duty with other proteges as usual and then sated our appetite.
During the fifth period, Liji ma'am asked me to dictate IT notes to 8E class as she was having leg pain and could not climb the stairs and I did as instructed. The class was well disciplined and so I was happy to stand in good stead.
In the last period, I took a substitution in 8F class and dictated notes on the song which the pupils wrote down in their notebooks. I enjoined them to start studying the chapters in the first unit as I will be conducting an exam soon for them. After line duty, I went to GCTE to get my lesson plans signed by Isaac sir.
