Teaching Practice Phase 2: Day 9
I had only one period today at 8F. I declared the winners of the previous day's class activity on dialogue writing as groups 1 & 3 led by the students Kaveri and Sneha respectively. I shared with the rest of the learners the merits of the winners' works and encouraged the others to rise up to their level, not to copy their style but to be inspired by their effort and teamwork.
I continued with my experimental study and collected necessary data. Due to time constraints, I skipped the silent reading session. I believe I have improved the reading prosody so that the pupils may follow suit. I also stopped roaming around the class while reading the text, so as not to distract the attention of the learners. I prepared letter templates for today's activity and distributed them to different groups. I was satisfied that the template itself piqued the pupils' interest and that they showed readiness to do the discourse of drafting informal letters. It was a bit tough to manage the class while the pupils were engrossed in completing the discourse. Though it was clear that the pupils understood the content of the folk-tale till what had been covered, their grammatical errors have become a bee in my bonnet. I feel I should give them more grammar practice in class.
One practical difficulty I face is regarding note dictation. Either I should give 38 individual copies to the learners or I should find extra periods in 8F, which may not always be possible. Anyway, I should choose a way as many students shared their difficulty in accessing the notes given earlier.
Maja ma'am came to observe my class for a few minutes. She did not make any particular comment on my class engagement or pedagogy. She was merely anxious about my being able to complete two units on time. I told her that I will try my level best to finish the first unit this month itself.
After the national anthem, we teacher trainees got together for a chinwag. Then I went to my college to get the lesson plans signed by Issac sir, in the absence of English optional teacher. But since Issac sir was on leave, we got them signed by Rosh sir.
