Teaching Practice Phase 2: Day 3

Today too, since the tutor of 8F class was on leave, I got substitution hour there during the first period. It's Bhadra's birthday and we all wished her with a birthday song. She distributed toffees to the whole class. I shared the toffees which I received with my fellow trainees. Since I had planned to take a class on the grammatical category 'Pronouns' during my regular hour, I continued with the lesson 'The Mysterious Picture' and could complete it upto paragraph 10. There were not many words which the learners found unintelligible. They uttered the exact Malayalam equivalent of many words, to my surprise.

During the second period, I engaged the topics 'nouns' and 'pronouns'. The learners could discern different categories of nouns easily but somehow baffled over the disparity between noun like 'happiness' and adjective 'happy' and the like, which I tried my best to dispel and clarify. Learning to apply pronouns in sentences did not seem a Herculean task for the pupils. It's difficult to make the students grasp grammatical categories and their usages unlike that of prose or poem. I feel I should work more on such lessons.
Before indulging in my works, I visited the newly opened canteen in the school with Keerthana teacher and savoured a lip smacking black tea. We left the school after line duty and was grabbed by ambivalence when I learned that tomorrow will be a working day.
