Teaching Practice Phase 2: Day 12
After the quotidian prayer and pledge, we teacher trainees retired to our classes, for making last minute review of the lessons to teach. During the second period, Veena and I went to 10H class as substitution. I was glad to meet my former students of 9H class which I engaged during the first phase of school internship. I took a class for 8F during the fourth period. The class strength was low as many students went for attending an exhibition at Fine Arts College. I gave an introduction to the next poem 'Taj Mahal', playing a video on its magnificence and history. The audio quality was poor, aggravated by the lack of a speaker. Most of the pupils were however already familiar with the monument and its history. Then I moved on to word study pertaining to the poem and later quizzed the learners on the same. They submitted their completed notebooks which I checked and returned.
After lunch, Keerthana and I were asked to assist a Malayalam word construction competition for students. We went around the class along with trainees from other colleges, correcting the answer sheets of learners after the time allotted to pupils for completing maximum number of words using each given set of letters or signs ends. It seemed we don't fit the bill as many words written by the learners confused us with ourselves carrying out discussions there itself regarding the correct spellings. The whole situation was shambolic with too many Malayalam letters given to the learners who were in large numbers. The competition lasted for nearly an hour with ourselves ending up tizzy, pain in the legs and nape. We took up the line duty too before leaving the college.
