Teaching Practice Phase 2: Day 11

To observe the Anti-drug day the pledge against the use as well as encouragement of drugs was uttered by the learners following the morning prayer. I took two periods for 8F class today one a regular hour and the other a substitution. Thus I got two continuous periods in 8F and so I could complete the lesson 'The Boy Who Drew Cats'. I displayed my innovative work- the comic version of the folk-tale,  made the learners take up different character roles and act out the comic version. The learners were asked to point out the differences between the version of the folktale given in their text book and the version handed over to them in the form of the comic book. Then they were asked to discuss in groups and come up with alternative endings to the tale. The ending formulated by the learners were creative and interesting. The comic book was then passed to each bench of learners so that they could go through the same. Some of the learners asked how much time I took to complete the comic book and I told them that I utilised the vacation time for preparing the book. Before leaving the class I asked the learners whether the projector was working and their replied in negative. I then asked whether it was ok for them if I show video clips using laptop related to the lessons under study  and they said that it was alright.
We served mid day meal for the learners as directed.
In the afternoon, a poster making competition was held for the students and the anti-drug day was celebrated with the learners gathering in the school ground, carrying placards displaying quotes against drug use. Students from the pre primary section upholding the placards were guided by the teachers en route the road for campaigning against drugs. Mime was performed with the same purpose inside the school premise spearheaded  by government officials from the State Excise department.  Pledge against this social malody was made there also. The posters prepared by the learners were displayed in the notice board.
SPC members and JRC members together led a campaign carrying a banner against substance and drug use. The observation of the Anti-drug day at GGHSS, Manacaud, was indeed a pageant to watch.
During the second last period I got a substitution in 5C class. The learners were collaboratively working on posters related to the  anti drug day celebration. I let than continue with their work silently.  After line duty we left the school.
