Teaching Practice: Phase 1: Day 7

The day started with a Keralapiravi-special assembly under the aegis of the headmaster, Jose sir. Apart from the usual prayer and pledge, the students  sang songs and poems related to the mythical origin of our state.
Today, I took two periods for 8E class. The topic under discussion was the poem 'First Showers' by Nalini Sharma. 8E English teacher,  Daniel sir came for class observation during the fourth hour. After interacting with the learners regarding their views on rainy days, I moved on to the poem.  The difficult words were dispelled using a vocabulary chart. They were also given an activity to write a paragraph on a rainy day experience they had undergone in their life.  The personal narratives written by the  learners were interesting to read. After the class, Daniel sir gave me valuable feedback on the class and suggested things to improve board writing and chart writing.

I could complete the poem in the 7th period and gave activity cards containing sentences to be classified on the basis of similes and metaphors. Randomly choosing learners and asking topic-related questions proved to be an effective strategy in 8E class.
