Teaching Practice: Phase 1: Day 23

During the third period,  I started with the topic 'Phrasal Verbs' for 8E pupils. After explaining what phrasal verbs are and giving examples for the same from the lesson 'The Nightingale and the Rose' , I displayed a chart before the whole class. I asked the pupils to work in groups inorder to guess the meanings of the phrasal verbs from the sentences given in the chart. Though the meanings uttered by the learners were not fully correct in the case of some sentences,  they managed to tell partially correct and near responses. I appreciated their efforts and asked them to take down the given phrasal verbs,  their meanings and example sentences in their notebooks.

As the next activity,  I made the learners play a memory game. Two sets of cards were placed on the table, one set containing phrasal verbs and the other set containing their meanings. Then I wrote down these phrasal verbs and meanings on the board, ensued by instructing the pupils to memories the same. After a stipulated time, I cleared the board of the writings and asked one member from each team to come forward and correctly match and place the cards with the phrasal verbs along with their meanings.  For those people who erred, an additional chance was given. After each student's turn, the answers were read aloud and repeated. I got to make them do one more activity. Since I got a substitution in 8E during the last period , I could finish it too.
Initially, I intended to display a picture chart depicting different phrasal verbs to the whole class. Then I decided to do the pictionary game differently, given the pictures I collected were too small to ve displayed on a chart for the entire pupils. I distributed picture cards and corresponding phrasal verbs to each group. They were then asked to construct a sentence using the given phrasal verb, guessing its meaning from the picture. The learners were asked to exchange their cards with those of other teams once they complete their own and thus to attempt the phrasal verbs pictionary in all cards. After the task completion, answers were discussed.

During the fourth period,  I held mid-term examination for 9F students,  based on the topics 'The Jungle Air Crash', 'Affixes' and Professions of People, which I had taken for them. During the sixth period, I started with the next lesson 'The Last Leaf' by O.Henry.
