Teaching Practice: Phase 1 : Day 10
Today, during the first and second periods, I was asked to take the students of 5A, 5B and 5G to the ground for the physical education session. The learners played run and catch game. There were quite a few mentally retarded students in these classes. They were first reluctant to join the others in the game. I personally communicated with them and engaged in friendly talks. Some among them had speech difficulty too. Seeing myself encouraging these pupils to play with their classmates, the latter came to me. They too asked the differently abled pupils to join in the game. It was such a beautiful moment and finally they indeed joined the others.
Later, I went to 8E class but could not take any lesson per se. Daniel sir had asked me to conduct a test paper for them, based on the poem 'Song of the Flower'. I administered the questions to the pupils and supervised the exam. The students took more than the stipulated time for completing the test. After collecting their exam papers, I had to rush to 9F class. I entered the class almost 10 minutes after the bell had rung. Then arranging the class and taking the attendance took some time. So I decided to start with the next lesson plan during the 7th period.
During the seventh period, I engaged the class on the topic 'The Jungle Air Crash' for 9F students. There were only a few students in the class. Many were absent on account of the upcoming arts fest. A student asked whether the air crash occurred above the Amazon forest , pertaining to the lesson. I corrected her saying it's not Amazon but Peruvian rain forest, without realizing that both are same. Later, I referred and understood the fact. I think I should prepare myself better for the classes. I decided to clear that doubt in the next class.
