Teaching Practice Phase 1- Day 4
On day 4 of teaching practice, I took two periods for 9H students. As per the time table alloted to me, I do not have 9H classes to engage. But since I completed the lesson "Climate change is not hysteria, it's a fact" speech transcript for 9F students, originally meant to be taken by myself, Manju ma'am asked me to cover the same portion for 9H class too. I followed the same lesson plan and used the same teaching aid- powerpoint slides, as used before, in the other class. I could complete the whole lesson within the two hours. Unlike 9F class, 9H students were disciplined or rather silent. Only three students from the class responded to the comprehension questions asked, related to the topic. And I had to engage almost the entire class in Malayalam, because the rest of the class did not seem to follow English language even a bit. Since it was a substitution hour, I went on with using Malayalam as the medium of explanation. One thing I noticed as strange in the class was that many students, those occupying almost four benches, were lying down resting their heads on the benches stating they have headache. I asked the reason why so many students suffer headache all at once but I was not given any satisfactory answer. I felt something was not right and decided to report it to Manju ma'am the next day. Along with these two periods at 9H, I got substitution hours at 6A and 5E. There were only six students in 6A. I interacted with them casually, asking about their hobbies and interests. While I entered 5E class itself, I saw the learners there engaged in group studies and it astonished me. I allowed them to continue with their work, while monitoring their class.
