Teaching Practice Phase 1: Day 3
Today being wednesday, we attended the school assembly in the morning held in the school ground. Students from the LP, UP and High School classes participated in the assembly. The morning prayer was followed by national pledge taking and educational news. Prize distribution for the students who stood first and second in the district level sports meet were honoured during the assembly.Aleena R Vimal won the first prize for long jump at the district level. The headmaster Jose sir addressed the gathering and exhorted the learners to utilise half an hour from their lunch break to study different subject topics hitherto not learnt, with the help of their peers and teachers. After the assembly was dispersed, we the teacher trainees went on with our respective duties.
I took two periods today for 8E students. I utilised the first of these periods for discussing the textual questions related to the lesson 'Rosa Parks Sat Still' . I also gave feedback to the learners regarding the dialogue - writing exercise's answers handed over to me by the pupils yesterday. The flow chart given in the cousebook was worked out by the learners independently whereas I provided necessary help to the needy pupils. I began with the poem 'The Sower ' by Victor Marie Hugo during the last hour and could complete three stanzas. The eight standard students, as usual, were very responsive. One major change I noticed about the pupils was that they started communicating to me in English. Though they sometimes erred and used Malayalam words , I really appreciate their attempt in using the target language in my class. Though the learners tried to elicit personal information from me, I refrained from disclosing any. Apart from these periods, I had to take two substitution periods , one each for 5A and 6G students. I engaged them in the word game 'HANGMAN'. They played the game well.
