One Day Visit to Govt Model LPS, Thycaud.

On 18th October,  2022, first year B.Ed students of GCTE  made a visit to Govt Model LPS, Thycaud as a part of experiental learning and as a training prior to the school  programme. Sri Rahul VR, Assistant Professor and IQAC coordinator of GCTE guided us throughout the visit under the programme named 'Our kutta kalipaatavum oru vatti pencilum'. We were warmly welcomed by the school teachers. We have been acquainted with the specialties of the school and factors that make it stand out from the rest , which we got to see for ourselves. The infrastructure, learning environment,  scaffolders & learners were beyond our imagination and expectation. 

We were first led to the activity hall vibrantly painted thematically including on the roof that portrayed a day starting from dawn to night. There were separate corners for book reading, clay modelling, mathematics, music and the like in accordance with varying predilections of the learners. There is an indoor studio 'Matrukam' where online classes were recorded during the covid times and where videos for the school youtube channel Kaliveedu is being shot. The walls displayed the maps of India, Kerala and Trivandrum in paintings; along with those of historical monuments in our country. There was going on the construction of a cave entrance embellished with a ferocious lion figure atop. The school has a park for the pupils. Vegetables produced via organic farming in the school premise are used to prepare victuals included in the pupils' midday meals. The school has a well maintained library and reading area. 

The school which was in a dilapidated condition earlier was given a new lease of life by the Kerala Government's Public Education Rejuvenation Mission coupled with efforts - both monetary and emotional- from the part of the school teachers. In totality the visit was worthy and imparted new visions to us as future pedagogues. We, the B.Ed students, performed a variety of programmes for the students ensuring their participation in them. This included Magic through Maths headed by Keerthana Anil; the rendition of folk song by student teachers; science experiments under the aegis of Keerthana SS , Harsha & Ansila; story telling by Devika PS and action song under the leadership of Vignesh. We handed over our tokens of love - baskets full of toys and pencils & colour papers for craftworks- to the students, books for the school library and memento to the teachers.

I engaged two periods for 8E class today. Since the lesson 'The Nightingale and the Rose' was completed, I gave the learners a few activities based on the same. A story board completion chart was displayed and the learners were randomly called to complete it. After the task, the teacher confirmed the answers and cleared doubts.  I also made the learners do a passage editing activity and error correction activity. During the last period, I conducted a test for them on the poem 'The Sower'. The examination was held for 15 marks and for thirty minutes duration. Since I could not take print outs of the question paper, I wrote down the questions on the board and asked the learners to write down the answers.  After collecting the answer sheets, I asked the pupils to complete a few activities,  including poster making activity given in their English Reader and submit the works by Monday.

The Jolly Hollies 2022

Christmas was traditionally a Christian festival celebrating the birth of Jesus, but in the early 20th century, it also became a secular family holiday, observed by Christians and non-Christians alike.Popular customs of Christmas  include exchanging gifts, decorating Christmas trees, attending church, sharing meals with family and friends and, of course, waiting for Santa Claus to arrive. GCTE Thycaud too celebrated Christmas on 22nd December, 2022. Teaching Practice: Phase 1 : Day 25

I engaged two periods for 9F today and completed the story 'The Last Leaf' for them. Then I gave necessary instructions to them so that they could complete the textual exercises on their own. I asked the pupils to come up with alternative titles for the lesson . I also dictated to them notes on the poem 'On Killing a Tree' which they took down in their notebooks.  For 8E class, I continued with the story 'A Day in the Country' using vocabulary and powerpoint slides as aid. I had to rush the lesson a bit since their portions were pending and revision classes were about to begin prior to the Christmas examination.  Preparations for the upcoming state-level vocational fests have already begun. My fellow teacher trainees took Physical Education classes during the second and third periods.
